Mercy Spanish Class Learns About El Dia de los Muertos

Mercy's K-3 Level Spanish classes recently learned about El Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.  El Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that celebrates and remembers loved ones who have passed. It is a three day celebration beginning on October 31st.

Mercy's class created a traditional Día de los Muertos altar to celebrate their loved ones.  Students shared pan de muerto (bread of the dead) and talked about the memories of their loved ones while decorating the altar. The students also made calaveras de azucar or sugar skulls and brought in photos, bibles and other items that were special to them to add to the altar.
